Well there's no wonder in my mind why so many Penrose Annuals have survived. The binding is second to none!
Tearing down. It's a laborious, time consuming task but there's also a sort of zen like state you get into while carefully using the knife to separate the signatures and removing the glue soaked scrim holding it all together.
There are many different paper stocks many of which which were 'tipped-in' between sections. Clearly this was far from the cheapest book to produce!
